KATIE WOOD UH HUH YEAH

We’re currently working with the conspiracy theory that the newly emerging artist Katie Wood hopped into a Tardis from the '80s to bring us that pop goodness and new wave fashion from a decade that never fails to appeal stylistically. Just in case we’re proven wrong, let’s tell you about Katie Wood. This London-based artist claims her influences as Blondie, The Cure, T. Rex, Bowie and Echo and the Bunnymen, as well as those tricky emotions which she pours into her synthy pop music as a means of escapism and expression. As Wood shares: “All of my music has a kind of sarcastic charm to it, even though I mainly write about my own life experiences I don’t actually take myself ALL that seriously and it’s part of who I am - to use humour alongside somewhat depressing and solemn subjects.” Of course, one such single is ‘Uh Huh Yeah’, which is peppered with lines like “If this is what life’s meant to be, The how the fuck I am supposed to feel”, providing a candid insight into an internal frustration as Wood came to terms with her agoraphobia. Evidently, music has been a great resource for this young songwriter, whose muted tones, '80s drums and emotional, raspy vocals create a vivid impression of this exciting new pop artist. Consider this space watched. - Hannah Thacker
